Haven't done any of those but don't you have to shrink them before you can put them in a bod. If thats the case youll need a pet leash. You can make those by going to bod seller and buying a brush. The brush is the tamers crafting tool. I think youll also needs some ingots and leather to make it.
Another thing if it is a large bod, youll need the small bods of the appropriate quantity to fill them. The large bods are kind of like baseball card checklists and the small bods are kind of like the cards themselves. When you double click on a large bod, the crosshairs are wanting you to click a small bod. The small bods are wanting you to click on the rats themselves.

You tame the critter then click the combine button and target the tamed critter in question.

How about the large thing, do you have to have the smalls to go with it?

okay....LBODs work where you have to collect the small bods for each creature type. So in order to fill a LBOD that has 3 different types of rats, you have to have a 15 count SBOD of each creature type. Once you fill a small bod, you can combine it with the LBOD. When working with LBODs, you can only combine them with SBODS, nothing else. SBODs combine with creatures. It's double the work, and Quadruple the wait to collect all the necessary SBODs to fulfill the LBOD.
hope this clarifies for you.

Yeah thats the way the smithing bods work. So the bod is actually expecting something from your pack(a small bod).
